LOS ANGELES, CA— Earlier today, nationally-renowned food journalist Russ Dewitt published a controversial article on the specialty coffee industry. The piece, which criticized specialty coffee shops for charging too much for coffee, consulted no specialty coffee professionals or coffee farmers, included no apparent research into the subject at hand, and was, in fact, based on almost nothing.
“This is not only my opinion,” Dewitt told reporters at a press conference this morning. “It’s also the opinion of several of my friends and acquaintances, based on anecdotal experience. I drink coffee, don’t I? So why doesn’t that count as research?”
Michele Green, a restaurateur quoted in the piece, agreed with Dewitt. “Why shouldn’t my experience running a successful restaurant group mean that I know everything about the coffee industry? I feel very qualified to speak on the subject.”
The piece, which published six hours ago at the time of publication, has received mixed reviews on #coffeetwitter, where most are critiquing its complete lack of research and a select few are praising it as “courageous” and “worthy of a Sprudgie award.”
